Microsoft has launched the much anticipated windows 10 operating system. As all n one strive to be on the front lines of technology updates we have begun the swap over by upgrading all of the operations team’s computers to windows 10 within its first week. Windows 10 is a free upgrade option to all users of windows 7, 8 and 8.1. In order to be eligible for the upgrade you must have your current version of windows updated to the latest windows updates. This is because part of the upgrade software is included in one of the later windows updates. Once this updating process is complete a windows logo will now appear in your task bar. Click this button and follow the step provided to update your operating system to windows 10.

All n one conducts vigorous research on projects before implementing them so here are a few key points to be noted from the launch of windows 10.

  • Windows Security updates are now set to install important updates automatically and cannot be tuned off. (Increase in security)
  • Microsoft Edge is the latest browser from Microsoft. This new browser is set to be Microsoft’s replacement for internet explorer as it incorporates your installed apps on windows 10. Microsoft Edge is currently not compatible with adobe flash player. Microsoft Edge is also ready to use and compatible with bxp software.

  • Windows 10 marks the return of the Start button. This fan favourite was removed initially from windows 8 which caused controversy over how users operated the windows environment (Transition to touch screen). With the start buttons reintroduction to Windows 10 fans are very happy to see its return.

After we began implementing windows 10 we first installed it onto one of our testing machines. By completing this process with the correct testing we are able to supply you with the various issues we had with the windows 10 implementation and our workarounds to solve these issues.

Issue 1: Versions of Outlook earlier then 2013 may have issue sending emails

Fix1: Right click start button Type CMD into the run bar and then right click CMD and run as administrator. Type sfc /scannow into the command prompt. This will search and repair windows files. Takes 20 minutes After this the issue was fixed for us.

Issue 2: Dreamweaver CS6 was having bad server behaviours and would not launch the application properly.

Fix: Uninstalled Dreamweaver CS6 and opted to purchase the latest CC version. This new version has had no issue working with windows 10.

Issue 3: Cisco VPN: Software appeared to work but the connection functionality did not work.

Fix: Cisco have stopped supporting their VPN client so it is unlikely they will release an updated version for windows 10.

Issue 4: Chrome Browser: After the update to windows 10 chrome gives a message that the current version is not compatible with windows 10

Fix: When this message occurs chrome should prompt you to update the software. If not then download the installation file through a different available browser like egde/Internet explorer.

Issue 5: Microsoft edge is Microsoft’s new browser. The issue with the browser is that it currently does not support flash player. This can impact some websites that use flash.

Fix: Use the also installed Internet explorer 11 on windows 10. Or download an additional browser though the existing browsers. (Firefox, Chrome, Safari recommended)

Other notable issues: MySQL 5.6, ODBC 3.51/5.1, Active Perl, 3D Vision.
