1 Sending a parent|child communication

bxp gives users of the system the ability to send out communications to records stored in a form, in a parent and child structure. In order to use this functionality you must open up the communication centre module. Once here you must first select the type of communication that you want to send


1) SMS

  • SMS sending > Parent|Child - Send a Campaign SMS


2) Text Email

  • Text Only Email Sending > Parent|Child - Send a Campaign plain text email


3) Rich HTML Email

  • Rich HTML Email Sending > Parent|Child - Send a Campaign rich text email


After choosing the communication that is to be sent to the recipients, the user will be presented with a page that contains two drop down lists, one for the parent form and one for the child form. You must select two different forms on this page as the you will be unable to progress any further, until two different forms are selected.

After selecting the forms that will act as the parent and child databases, simply click on the continue button at the bottom of the page. Once this button is clicked you will be redirected to the main details page that allows you to set the options for the communication.


1) Template

  • This option allows the user to select a pre-designed template to be used in the communication

2) Data field

  • This option allows the user to select the field in the child database, that contains the to address for the communication

3) Matching field in the parent form

  • This option allows the user to set what field in the parent database contains the linking field, that stores the primary key for linking

4) Matching field in the child form

  • This option allows the user to set what field in the child database the foreign key is stored in, to allow the linking

5) Parent records grouping

  • This option allows the user to specify up to 4 levels of record grouping at parent level

6) Child records grouping

  • This option allows the user to specify up to 4 levels of record grouping at parent level

7) Parent record sort options

  • This option allows the user to set a field in the parent database to sort the records by

8) Child record sort options

  • This option allows the user to set a field in the child database to sort the records by

9) Render the generated recipient list

  • This option allows for the user to decide if they wish to see an onscreen listing of all the recipients of the communication that match the groupings used. The listing is rendered if this option is set to True

2 Parent|Child Communication - Recipients Listing

After submitting the parent|child communication options as outlined above and if you set the option Render the generated recipient list to be true, you will be presented with a list of all the recipients who will be included on the mail send. On this page you are able to further refine the recipients listing by clicking on Include check box associated with every recipients. This page allows users to open up the parent record or the child record associated with each recipient.

Once you are happy with the list of recipients, simply click on the Finalize Recipients button at the bottom of the page to be redirected to the standard communication send for bxp.
