FullCalendar.io is a JQuery plugin which provides calendaring functionality.

As part of the Appointment Diary module we have upgraded the current interface to facilitate use of FullCalendar.

FullCalendar however isn't fully backward compatible with all browsers unfortunately. So bxp will display the older Appointment Diary calendar to older browsers and facilitate FullCalendar for newer browsers.
